Microsoft drops Eolas-related software changes

edited January 2004 in Science & Tech
Microsoft has been reported to be reversing its plans, that it will not make any changes to its Windows operating system or Internet Explorer Web browser in response to a verdict that said some components of those programs infringe on another company's technology.

[blockquote]The world's largest software maker said that "requests made by partners and customers" prompted it to cancel making changes that would make it difficult for its programs to run mini-applications over the Web.

Right, and the FACT that the Eolas win has been enforcement suspended (the enforcement order was stopped pending appeals by same judge that issued it, which is a legal way for a judge to say: "I am reasonably certian that one side is right but KNOW higher courts will decide if I am right or not.") until appeals process is complete lets Microsoft do this now. Whether this is temporary or permanent will be decide by courts over the next few years.

Same rationale, unaccepted changes, led to them extending the older Windows version support, at least in part (paid support, critical updates only).
