Classic gaming roots

Alright, this here is athread for people to discuss their classic gaming roots, if they have them.

When I was a little tyke, my dad had a Famicon (I think he enjoyed playing it more than I did) and we were poor, so every Christmas of my early childhood, I'd get another cheap game from this same company that made these bargain bin games. My father loved to tease me as I lost all my lives in these terribly hard to control games, and of course, as kids we rarely blame the game, we usually blame ourselves.

Anyways, when I was a little older, we had a Sega Mega Drive (you guys in America would have called it the Genesis), and I played Sonic the Hedgehog. Loved that game, back when it was really good (kinda went downhill in quality after the first 3 games, but I'd sort of outgrown them by the time I was a teenager).

I didn't really play many games in my teens, just a few at the mall arcade with friends occasionally. I remember Lucky Fortune being a really out there game (if you could call it that). The one with the zombies and the scary house (I think it was probably house of the dead) was really awesome, and I remember being so scared by it, yet mesmerized because it was my first 3D game.

Anyways, I got back into gaming a little before I got transferred out of the big city. Now it's one of the only things keeping me sane.

So what are your stories?

Not much, I've only really gotten into gaming within the last few years. I never really had the opportunity before.

That said, I've had a rip-roaring good time over that period.
