Looking for a tablet

Hi guys.

My mom wants a tablet for christmas that she can use for business stuff. I've been looking a little bit around online, but my knowledge of this tech is very limited. The two main tablets I'm looking at atm are the iPad2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

She has stated needing the following functionality:

-Write Word documents, and read .pdf.
-Surf the web
-printing functionality
-some sort of sound recording
-preferably more than 8 hours of battery capacity
-transfer to and from USB-flashdrive.

She has a HTC phone, but she's terrible with it, as she is quite new at the whole touch-screen thing (you should see some of the texts she sends me), so using this device would have to be über-simple. Any opinions on which device will best suit her needs?

No tablet can reliably create Word documents, just read them. Tablets don't print well, either, and USB flash drive support is sketchy (at best) on all tablets.

She's better off with a thin laptop.

It sounds like she needs a thin and light Windows PC. I don't think a tablet will work out for her.

So she wouldn't be able to take notes from meetings and stuff on her tablet? I think communication is key here. I spoke to her on the phone and she mentioned Word, but I don't think she meant write a whole article, just take notes and memos..

She would, but less easily in .doc format. I think there are some office suites that can handle .doc creation, but it's not their best function. Something like Evernote or similar is the more traditional note-taking method.

As for the whole flashdrive issue, I reckon memory cards will work as a substitute if she has the proper reader on her win machine. But all in all, I think she may be better off with a mini computer, as you say. Problem is, she has tried, and don't like them very much, as she complains about the small keyboard small screen.
