Anyone know of/have a windows boot loader that's not Grub? Sol's got windows on my flash drive. It's running Umbuntu server a UI
You seem so lost right now.
I said "your flash drive has a windows image on it, and I need to burn it. My dad installed Ubuntu server, which doesn't have a UI".

Are you having trouble with grub? As far as I know, grub is one of the better bootloaders out there...

I guess grub won't work from a usb? Sol's speaking foreign to me. He went to get dvdrs to burn windows onto them.

I guess I'm confused as to what you're trying to do (or what he is trying to do).

I guess I'm confused as to what you're trying to do (or what he is trying to do).

Cam pulled the plug on his pc last week when Sol was trying to install Umbuntu. (is that what it's called?) He closed it. Then the pc wouldn't do anything. Load, boot, etc. It wouldn't install Umbuntu from the disc either.

Cam took it to work, and now Solomon says he doesn't want to have it just do Umbuntu, he wants Windows again.

Right now he can't do anything with it.

He saved Windows on my flash drive.

he just wants his pc basically work again.
    Correction: UBUNTU, Mom, it's UBUNTU.

Ah; then you need to do one of the following: Either install Windows onto the machine from USB, or from Windows DVDs.

    Here's a guide

I tried that, and it didn't work. GRUB doesn't seem to want to boot from the USB OR DVD of the Windows image.

booting from the usb/dvd should happen before grub loads. You may need to set it to boot from them before the hdd in the bios, or by keystroke before grub loads.

I did that, with no change. I just gave up, and re-installed Ubuntu.
My computer boots now, but my trackpad doesn't work, the Ethernet port doesn't recognize anything (although, it never did in the first place), and I can't connect to my wi-fi network.

    This is fun...

I am figuring the "fun" is sarcastic....

As to connecting to Wi-Fi, probably need a Linux network driver from the Wi-Fi manufacturer folks-- I am not fantastic with Linux and except for the non-working Ethernet port situation, I would say disable wi-fi in BIOS, restart, then reconfigure networking (most Linux auto-installers get confused when there are multiple networking interface devices present at install time).

Trackpad-- can you get pointer to move?? If not, you need a trackpad driver from mfr, or (less likely to work), a Sigmatel trackpointer/trackpad driver.

That is all I know, and it was gained from "blood, sweat, and tears experience." The other problem with my trying to help, is that I have almost no Ubuntu experience.

I found another guide last night for installing windows from a USB drive. You can find it here

If you are still having issues with booting from the USB drive, it is most likely your BIOS. Do you know which BIOS your machine is running?
