Problem with monitors - Saphire Radeon HD 6970

edited November 2011 in Hardware
Hi everyone,

Got a little problem on my hands here and need some help.

I have three monitors that i want to be active at the same time;

-Acer 19 inch plug by DVI
-DELL 24inch plug by VGA
-Sharp Aquos 41 inch plug by HDMI

I can only have two of them plug at the same time.... how can i get them all extended at the same time?

Thank in advance!

How many non-DisplayPort monitors can I use with an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card?
You can connect up to two non-DisplayPort monitors at one time to an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card using non-DisplayPort connections or passive DisplayPort dongles. To enable and drive 3 or more non-DisplayPort monitors at one time, the additional non-DisplayPort monitors must be connected with an active DisplayPort dongle.

You need to plug at least one of them in via DisplayPort for three or more monitor support.

Display port? Sorry but could you specify? I only have 1 DVI output, 1 VGA ouput and 2 HDMI

No, you have DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI on the back of your GPU. Get an active single link displayport adapter for your DVI monitor. DisplayPort is another type of monitor connector. These adapters are about $20 on Newegg.

Also, your 6970 doesn't have VGA.

Assuming you typed the card name in correctly, you have 5 connectors on the back:
    • 1 x Dual-Link DVI
    • 1 x HDMI 1.4a
    • 2 x Mini-DisplayPort
    • 1 x Single-Link DVI-D

You need to connect at least one of the monitors via an active DisplayPort adapter. Here is the list of adapters approved by AMD. Remember, that is ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE an active adapter, and yes, it will be more expensive.

If I didn't link to the right card up there, perhaps you can set me up with a picture or link to newegg/sapphire website.

Yeah sorry about that...Thrax was correct regarding the different port. I did not know it had to be an active adapter approved by AMD. Good thing i did not go ahead and buy one form theses other company's.

Get one of the Sapphire, Powercolor or XFX adapters on Newegg.com. Cheap, and they WILL work. Remember: active single link.
