a friend of mine is looking for an e-reader for her mom.

it has to be cheap and apparently be able to be loaded with russian characters.

i am in no way familiar with the tablet market but i was thinking of steering her to a kindle.

i'm figuring that changing the language is as simple as changing the language pack on a pc.

I understand that the most recent e-ink kindle supports Cyrillic characters, but you'll want to look into that before buying.

Absolutely. The Kindle Touch supports non-latin characters such as Cyrillic and Kana.
