[BLOG] My take on music

I'm not going to lie, I'm a moderate red neck. I drive a pickup truck, own guns, hunt, go camping, occasionally wear a cowboy hat, have a pair of jeans that most guys (outside of Texas) wouldn't wear, and often have a "round can" in my back pocket and say "yall" more than I even realize.

Luckily, I have a very wide taste for music and a great appreciation for almost everything musical. My Mother enjoys soft rock to the tune of Hootie and the Blowfish. My dad lives the classic rock era of AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue. My grandparents constantly play Hank Williams, The Bellamy Brothers, and Willie Nelson. I jammed rap and hip hop so loud in high school I blew numerous subs and might end up with a hearing aid by 50. I own most of the Frank Sinatra collection along with many of the other rat pack. To top it off my family is heavy Czech so I even listen to some Polka from time to time (though doing the polka waltz is another story).

However, being born and raised in Texas I've always end up at the same place - country music. I listen to about 3-5 different pandora stations every day at work but when it is all said and done Country/Classic Country/Texas Country etc is something I will never get tired of - I suppose it is in my blood.

The direction of Music today is questionable it seems. Rap/Hip hop is getting so bad (and dirty) I often ask myself how I subjected myself to it for 4 years. The current generation of "rock" - in my opinion - is nothing compared to the rock that graced our ears in the 70s/80s/and even early 90s.

I find that only music that has been recently released that I actually enjoy is by groups that have been around for 20+ years. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Offspring, ACDC, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Greenday, etc - they are all still cranking out good tunes yet they are all two decades old.

I'm scared to think about the type of crap my children will be left with. Once the great bands, like I mentioned above, stop actively recording what are we going to be left with? Bands today just don't seem to get it. Maybe its the music, maybe its the sytle, maybe its just the generation - I'm not sure. I'm sorry I can't see Daughtry, Lil' Wayne, or Snow Patrol withstanding 2 decades. Maybe I'm wrong.

But out of all the music it seems Country music has held true and has, to this point, passed the test of time. While there are different variations such as classic country, regular "nashville" country, texas country, or even bluegrass - the music that is put out today is just as good as the music put decades ago. The lyrics are still true (often actually written by the artrist - imagine that), contains zero explitives (can any other mainstream genre say this?), and for the most part still sound, well, like country music should.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with demographics. Outside the south I know country music isn't near as popular and is probably even a minority. It's just comforting to know 30 years from now, Country music is going to be putting out genuine country music ;)

Oh, and plus you get music videos with Rob Snider lol :D
