[BLOG] Life without Brian, Day 1

Brian (primesuspect, the other owner of Icrontic) left Michigan for the first time in many moons today to cover CES for Icrontic. I've been his roommate for almost 2 years (oh man, has it been that long?), but this is the first day I (a Pennsylvania native) have been in Michigan without him around.

Of course, today is therefore the day we have a major Active Directory issue at the office. First, we can't get crossover cable connections to work, then we discover the freshly-installed Windows 2000 server can't see the 2003 domain. After a phone call to pragtastic, I traced the crossover connection to mis-entered IP addresses in the HOSTS file. Then I spent half an hour with the_technocrat troubleshooting the Active Directory problem to no avail. Finally, I got Brian during his layover in Denver and he pinned it to a very specific problem that only he knows how to fix. Perfect! :o Looks like we're burning CDs to transfer files until he gets back next week.

I arrive home after a 10 hour day, and Snuffie, the globbery Shar Pei, has daintily removed the feather cuff of a glove to show his disapproval of Brian's absence. Usually, Brian is home all day working on Icrontic. Snuffie doesn't take well to his routine being changed. At least he didn't shit in the basement... this time.

No kids for a few days either, so I packed the toy piles upstairs, turned off their systems (still playing WoW music and sitting at the main screen), and confiscated Perry's Jolly Rancher stash (I'll be needing those, especially the Apple ones).

Now the house is my oyster; I could have people over, go out to the bar, who knows?

Oh look, they're recruiting for a TF2 match in IRC... Maybe this weekend won't be that extraordinary after all.
