any speed main USB chip, including USB 2.0 Extended for two basic reasons.

Firstly, USB sockets off of a motherboard have a connection so built as to yield device speed sensing of the device and cable speed sensing by the main USB chip on the motherbaord simply having line test signals sensed as working or not working by the main USB chip AND...

secondly, the cables are compatible with each other, according to USB standardized specs. So and therefore, a slower cable built to meet earlier standards can be put into a computer's socket with crossed up pin error vs. spec existing if not built strictly to the USB Standards Working Group specs are not followed also, but no errors if the cables and connectors on the cables ARE built to spec of the USB standards. The reason this is so, is that the standards put pins more densely for faster speeds, in such a way that the standards put only pins extra by speed increase and purposes of the pin set by speed are not to be revised as to
have the pin sets by speed for older cables violated as to standard previously given. The one and only thing that could happen is the SPEED is sensed by reply speed as to quickness of data flow which would force a socket and main board connector to be exchanging data slower when tested than the higher speeds which the main chip CAN work with IF the cabling and speed set if they are for fast, modern USB of USB of USB 2.0 and up.
