Mike Rowe's letter reaches big numbers

edited February 2004 in Science & Tech
Bids on Ebay for Mike Rowe's warning letter from Microsoft have hit the big numbers.

[blockquote]It's worth looking at the bid history on this auction, which shows a long list of retractions, with some people claiming they entered the "wrong bid amount". What is there about six figures and three figures they don't understand?[/blockquote]

wow what integrity, too bad everyone felt sorry for this kid about getting sued by the big MS now he's just a damn sell out. Up to $8000, wtf, who would pay 8000 for some piece of paper from MS telling this kid they want his domain, who cares?

I first checked and it was $5k and then $3k, $2.5k, $2.4k, $2.2k, $2k. He is cancelling bids like crazy because they must be preapproved.

How does his intergrity come into question here?

He is offering "(a) chance to own a piece of Internet history."

He is right. It is not every day that David takes on Goliath. MS initially offered him $10 for the domain. He told them to buzz off and not come back until they had added 3 more zero's to the cheque. They threatened him with legal action, he said, bring it on and see how the public reacts to you suing a 17 year old kid for having a name that sounds like your company's.

They relented and give him thousands of dollars worth of shwag.

    Internet history.

Why not make a little more money from it by selling the unneeded copy of all the papers? I don't see how this makes him a sell out. The whole thing was about money in the first place. He had a legal right to ue the name "mikerowesoft" and it was not a trademark infringement. Why should he not ask them for suitable compensation from a company that makes billions of dollars? Why shouldn't he sell a copy of the papers if someone else wants to buy them?

True - If you own it you can sell it for as high a price as possible. Capitalism - It's the American way.

Who can knock a 17yr (or anyone else) for trying to make the most of a unique opportunity

Also the Canadian way. Which is important, considering that Mike Rowe is Canadian ;)
