Card Reader is "unavailable"

I have a card reader in my comp and none of the drives are showing in My Computer like they used to. Device Manager recognizes the reader but says its unavailable. All drivers seem to be up to date. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, but the problem was there in XP as well. Any ideas?

What is the model number of your card reader? Do they show up if you actually put a card in there?

Unsure of the model without taking it out of the case. No, they do not show up when a card is in it.

Strangely, the drives showed up up twice today but then disappeared from My Computer.

Well, there are two behaviors: all drives show up all the time or no drives show up unless something is inserted. If you are not exhibiting one of those two, you should be looking for the manufacturer's driver to fix it.

Yep, for now it seems to be working even though the drives aren't showing up. Strange, but at least it seems to be fixed. Thanks for the help.
