Does anybody know how to get around this? (proxy IP?)

My friend has purchased NHL Game Center live to watch hockey games. We live in Canada, and so lots of games air on CBC. Thing is, when we want to watch Toronto (Ontario) games. We live out in Manitoba. When we try to watch them online, they are blacked out and it says to watch them on our local CBC station - which of course airs Winnipeg Jets games over Toronto games, because it is the local team.

So, I am wondering if there is a way to use this through proxy IP, so the program won't assume we are in Canada and able to see Toronto games on CBC (which we CAN'T!).

TLDR: I want to find a way to use a proxy IP so a streaming program won't block certain 'local' nhl games

cheers!

ps sorry if this is the wrong category... seemed the closest that I could find. The layout has changed since I was here last.

AFAIK, using a proxy service would work in the sense of not blocking it through local IP geo-location, but would not work at all on the "actually watching" it front, as the bandwidth required for (HD) TV viewing is probably more than you can get through a proxy service.

A high end VPN service might work.
  • Or get a hosting account that has SSH access and use an SSH tunnel.
