Goodbye, Skyrim. Hello, Amalur.

Dear people of Skyrim. I’ve spent about 115hrs in your world. In that time I’ve slain many dragons. I’ve recovered artifacts of immense power and created many more, which I sold to you at a huge discount. I’ve rid your world of the undead, I’ve destroyed cults, become an Arch-Mage, a Master Thief, a walking shadow of Death and a heroic Champion as well. I’ve seen the height of you civilizations as well as plumbed depths, which no sane person should go.

I walk around in various accouterments that denote my status and accomplishments. I can kill giants, demons and dragons with but a shout. Your Jarl’s seek my help and guidance and in return have handed me titles and deads. I’m respected throughout your vast land by anyone who knows anything. If you look to your shops you’ll see my name on many of their deeds. I am Skyrim.

In all that I’ve done though, there is still more to do or at least more that you would ask of me. You petty muling people have no respect. You think that I care that you’ve lost your favorite dog. That somone stole your broom. You still want me to prove myself to you. You don’t think I’m worthy enough to help you and feel like before you can trust me you need to test me. Me! I saved your world, defeated the world eating dragon, think about that. Had I spent all my time dealing with your pettyness instead of saving everything you hold precious because you can’t get off your lazy butt to do something for yourself we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

So sorry, Skyrim. I’m done with you. I’m leaving for other worlds. Worlds full of colour, full of action. Worlds that have a new worthy cause to fight for. I’m sure they’ll have petty needs as well. It seems to be the plight of the hero to be everything to everyone. I can accept some of that burden. Specially going into a new world that is unaware of my past exploits. But in this new world I’ll be greeted with new enemies and challenges. I’ll learn new awesome powers and be able to wield them in amazing new ways. No longer will I be saddled with a clunky body. My new form shall be fluid and exciting and attack with an unrelenting force that would shatter the very confines of Skyrim.

I’ll still be able to partake in my favorite hobbies, of scavenging supplies from fallen foes and not to mention botany. I’ll learn to craft new weapons and armor as well. So goodbye Skyrim, I’m off to see new sites. I’m off to venture into a new world. I’m off to the Kingdoms of Alamur to bring about or end a Reckoning I’m not sure just yet.

Amalur is an exciting action game in a forced, overwrought fantasy setting exploding with tired tropes.

It is all those things and glorious because of it. Skyrim would have you go through the pain of searching every chest, Amalur saves time. Other wise Skyrim has the same old tropes. Talk to everyone, search everything, loot/sell everything fetch this etc.... The end of the day Amalur excels in the action department by leaps and bounds.
