Mechwarrior 3 | Win XP | ATI Radeon AGP

Has anyone ever got MW3 to work with Win XP and ATI Radeon graphics card?
I'm giving an older pc to a friend. He really likes playing MW3 (single player mode).
Not the multiplayer mode online. He's not online.
So, I'm giving him one of our older pc's with Win XP loaded and a few games to play.
When I load programs or games, I try them out to make sure they run properly.
Everytime I get to certain points in the game it crashes to desktop.
All I have for pc's I build, are ATI Radeon video cards.
I have a few older ATI cards Radeon cards in my stock supply for pc building.
Never cared for NVidia's, which has now bit me in the --, I digress.
Seems the old NVidia cards run it fine.
Anyway, I have read up over at mechwarrior3.org on this problem.
I tried to join the site which requires ok of the site owner/return email.
No answer back after trying for a month or so to join.
I've tried all the settings they reccomend for this problem.
Just thought someone here might have gotten past this problem through game settings or software settings.
If someone has, I'll get further into hardware/software settings and such if needed.
Thnx for any answers in advance.
Hawk

Hi and thnx for getting back to me Thrax. Hiya Prime. Hope you all are doing well.
At the moment I have an ATI Radeon 9000 pro/ 128mb in it.
I had the catalyst control center installed with the latest drivers that were for that card.
I've tried setting the game to run as high as it will run & the video card adjusted down to the game settings. Still crashed going into the second part/campain (whatever it's called).
Right now I'm putting in a new HD (small 30G is starting a grinding noise).
    Installing a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 120 GB - 133 MBps - 7200 rpm /reloading winxp/getting MS to give me a new reg #.
I'm going to look through all my older ATI cards and use the oldest I have.
I know it's not a case of using an old card, but the ATI issue.
I've read where many with the older NVidia cards have played fine with no crashes.
Let you know when I'm ready and have Win XP registered and updated.
The service packs make alot of difference.
    Be a day or so.

You have to tell me what the "latest drivers" are.
