Civ 5 - 1v1 Tournament [complete]

Who wants to do a standard tournament bracket of 1v1 games?
All we need to do is get 8 players to sign up.

    You can change the pace to "Quick", which I recommend - but is not as good if you actually want to have battles - or you can set the game to start in a later era, which I don't recommend, only because I think it's not as fun to have the early game decisions made for you, even if playing them is kind of boring.

    My thought on rules, since we are all new to this async turn based stuff, is that we just use the standard set:

    Starting positions on the bracket are randomly generated.
    We need 4 or 8 players to get this going.
    It could take a few weeks or maybe 2 months, I actually have no idea. I just wanted to get some 1v1 matches going so we can learn GMR.

    I haven't played Civ V for so long that I don't really remember what the heck I'm doing.

    It seems like we 3 people willing to give this a shot so far:

    If we get 1 more we could start and do a mini bracket. Otherwise we can wait for 8.

    I would change the game pace to 'quick', and for two players, I would decrease the map size to 'duel'

    In. Would prefer default settings. Don't mind a long tourney.

    Ok so if everyone is ok with some long adventures (probably gives us 3-10 turns per week in between the one turn per week we take with the 12 player marathon) then we are almost good to go. We just need one other person who is OK with some longevity to the tournament.

    We need one more to have 8 so we can do an even tournament bracket.

    Once we have 8 I'll quickly randomize the list in a spreadsheet so we can see our starting matches, and from there we get it on! Slowly.

    Thanks, Gate28. :) So, the rules were using are the ones listed above, including game pace and world size? (a 'small' world will be crazy big for a 1v1 game)
    I'd love to 1v1 you if you want.

    Ya CB is right, I was imaging it with computer players built in but that's not the way it works is it? I'm relatively clueless with Civ V multiplayer.

    If there are not computer players we should be doing Duel. I'm down to start the duels! Updated first bracket:

    I tried to start my game with Pigflipper, but it looks like he does not have GMPR installed as I couldn't invite him to the game.

    No, don't have it installed and really don't have the time to do so until Wed, my next day off. Sorry. Bunch of flying fecal matter mixed with work, sleep and the occasional noms has been the norm lately.

    If you can wait until Wed, that would be awesome, but if not, its cool, I'll challenge someone 1v1 when I get some days off.

    Started up a game with Annes. We agreed to go with 'Quick' speed (otherwise all settings as above agreed), and we took random civs. I ended up with Ottoman, and she with France.

    That is extremely useful. -- yes that is the same video posted in CB's original article.
    The take away is: start the game in hot seat mode and match your player choices exactly as they are on the GMR website.

    Basil and I are under way with a 1v1 quick duel using random civs.

    Basil vs Pirateninja is turning in to a drawn out game. I had a big advantage for a while but @Basil is about to start a major come back...and so it drags on. It's fun, but we likely won't be finished for a while yet. We are just getting in to muskets/rifles.
