New graphics software?

Hey guys can anyone recommend me a new graphics illustrator software. I've been using MS paint, but I feel like it's amateurish at best.

    GIMP is a pretty good program.

    Paint.NET is also pretty nice and free like GIMP.

    Kid Pix is probably the best graphic software ever.
