SM17 is jinxed I swear!

PSU died today, I borrowed the PSU off my Domain Controller (cel 300a) since it folds a little slower than SM17. My guess is that the recent overclocking stressed the PSU more than it could handle (it was a generic). Anyways, SM17 is back up and running with about 10 hours of downtime. I have to buy a case for my domain controller so the PSU that's its using is a spare. Consider it donated to the team, its an Enermax 250 Watt ATX PSU.

Hmm ok SM17 is really mad, she ate the 250 Watt enermax as well (although I put it back on my Domain Controller and the PSU appears to work fine). There's now a 350 watt antec for a new computer that's awaiting components in SM17. She appears to be working fine now.

In other news while working on my fileserver my powersupply blew up after seating a new cpu. I actually saw the blue spark and smoke as it burnt. I guess its just not my day :/. Hopefully it didn't take too much with it. I'm leaving everything else down for now. Today appears to be a bad day.

Derek

Good going getting her back online so fast. The whole team appreciates the fine job you are doing as host - above and beyond the call of duty!

Well, gotta think of it as 20 random computers put together from people's spare parts trying to run at full capacity 24/7. Bound to have a prob with at least one at any given moment :-/ I fear it will only increase as the project does, but with hosts who are top of stuff (like qp here) we don't lose too much because of it :)

The room with all the computers wouldnt be carpet would it? Too much static maybe?

Well, When I first got SM19, she smoked her PSU then smoke another and is now running just fine. Must be related to the stress of adoption and the moving from other owner to our homes... I guess we're more of a foster home than adopted family.

qp, you say that hte 250 works fine back on your other machine?
It may be an issue of regulation at full load.
I have had some 'works in this box but not that one' PSU issues.

there's carpet but the entire room is covered in hard plastic floor mats would shouldn't cause a lot of static. Maybe I was just electric last night ;). Both PSU's would provide some power to the board (ie the green led indicating power was on and the fans would try to spin) but it seems that the board was just pulling too much current at startup for both. I did try unplugging all fans and other non-mandatory components but to no avail. I've got 2 Cases + 300 watt generic PSU's to pickup today. One of them will be destined for SM17.

OMG it really is jinxed! We had a power outage today for 2 hours. Luckily it didn't lose its WU and its still chugging along. Unfortunately 2 of my other boxes did lose WU's :/. I swear its those darned construction guys building across the street. Its only ever our neighbourhood that goes out and while there are trees around, all the local power wires are BELOW ground :/.

Ok its soooo jinxed. Today I went to install windows and it claimed that there was no hd to install onto. I tried everything I could think of from new cables to wiping the hd completely (I backed up the linux install first). But nothing worked. So for now I'm going to stick with what's working (Linux) and try to tweak it as much as I can.
