There is not tons of differance really anymore with any of the 8mb cache drives. Acees and transfer rates are similiar. I think the hitachis are fastest non sata. With WD Seagate and Maxtor fighting each other for second place. All perform pretty close and most are quiet also. The current state of ide disks in general with 8mb cache is pretty hot.
k after thinking im debating doing 2x 80Gb in raid 0 2x 120 GB in raid 0 or just 1 160 sata, what do you guys think. would there be a difference between them?
The 2 x 120's in a RAID-0 would be the fastest, 2 x 80 - RAID-0 would be next and the single 160 would be the slowest by far. (between 1/3 to 1/2 slower).
As long as you can keep good backups or ghost images to a spare drive RAID is the way to go. I've never lost my RAID-0, but it does happen.
