Too much lag in TF2!

In TF2, any lag is too much lag!

I've been having problems with mine lately. I've checked the settings, tried reducing video quality, called the local Comcast ISP, reset the router and modem, etc. Nothing worked, at least not for long.

Yesterday I did a full router / modem reset, and the game played well, but today it's back to being a lag-fest.

Nothing like the feeling of running past the same building 4 times and watching people shoot you while your screen is all jittery and jerking around!!!!!

Nothing else is giving me lag problems, just this game.

Any ideas on what I could check or change in settings?

    1) does this happen on a server you host yourself

    2) if no, try a different server

    3) open console, type net_graph 3
-take a screenshot, post it here.

3a) have you changed any of your "rate" or settings that involve the rate?

    1. No

    2. It happens on all servers I try

    3. After much hassle, I finally figured out what console was and how to open it and get the net graph 3 to show. THEN came the next headache - TF2 saves screen shots as .tga files. What the hell is a TGA file?!?!?! Why can't they just save them as .jpg files? Is it really THAT hard to make it do? WoW doesn't have a problem doing it!

3a. I finally had enough of trying to make it work, and didn't want to download many spyware infested programs trying to open one stupid photo file. So here's the pertinent info from the screenshot:

    FPS - 120-150 Ping - 50-100 ms In - 80-130 3.5 to 4.5 k/s Lerp=100
    Out - steady at 80 and 2.66 k/s Loss - 0, Choke - 0

Down the right hand side of the window:

    20/s
    34/s
    33/s
    30/s

Does that help? I don't think I changed any rate settings yet.

That ping rate seems a bit high. What kind of internet connection are you on, and what are the results you get at speedtest.net?
