GPU and/or game issue?

I was playing Civ 5, and this happened (gets much worse at the last ten seconds):

I'm not entirely sure whether this is a problem with the game, the GPU, or both... Borderlands 2 works well, and this was the first time I played Civ 5.

Thoughts?

Oh, this is on an ASUS G74SX-A1:
- Core i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz)
- GeForce GTX 560 3GB
- 16GB DDR3-1333
- OCZ Vertex 4 256GB

That looks like a GPU problem. Civ5 uses heavy GPU compute, and would stress the GPU in a way that BL2 couldn't hope to.

So much for not having laptop problems :/ I guess eight months isn't bad for ASUS.

Yeah, I had the same problem on my stationary a couple of years back. It only got worse until the GPU just shut down completely and wouldn't work at all.

check temps/clocks with gpu-z and see if it only happens at certain clocks/temps.

That is DEFINITELY GPU, absolutely no doubt about it. I've seen the exact symptoms before. Generally associated with faulty DRAM or a defective core. (I've seen it with both.)

It's dangerous to go alone. Take this: https://simtk.org/home/memtest/
(There's a different one for AMD cards, forget where I hid that bookmark though.)
