Keyboard and mouse not read after removing and replacing cmos battery

Hello everyone, this is my problem: I switched my hard drive because the old one was somehow not working, also I removed and replace the battery ( I don't know why I did that) but when I restarted my Dell PC, the keyboard and mouse were not working (not being detected I guess) by the system. What did I do wrong besides messing with the battery?
Please help.

Um, if you have an older Dell PC, you might check and see if it has two round ports on back with 6 holes in ports, one green and one purple. Or two ports like round with 6 holes in, but black. If so, post that you do have this kind of two ports on back of computer, and we can talk you more about what to do.

there's probably something called usb legacy or something similar in the bios. that may have gotten changed. usb ports could also be disabled. try plugging your kb and mouse into different ports.
