XD Good collection. This year, I cracked out on a lot of nostalgia games. Carrying all those old consoles on my Phone kind of lends itself to endless distractions and good memories.
This year games that I had a good bit of fun with were Mw3, Borderlands 2, Planetside 2, and a few others from last year that I just recently got around to playing.
Mass Effect 3: DAT STORY (yea I got teary-eyed). DAT FEMSHEP (Jennifer Hale does an amazing VO) I've dropped 500+ hours into this franchise.
(blue alien sex WAT!)
Guild Wars 2: DAT NOT A WoW CLONE. No Subscription. Endless dynamic events. I've dropped 1500+ hours into this franchise.
Borderlands 2: Yes, I was totally pissed with the ending in the first game. I was meh about this game until Mechromancer! The story is also 1000 times better this time around
Wasted $60: Diablo 3. I wanted LoD 2. I didn't get it after 12 years
Company of Heroes/Company of Heroes 2: Goes without saying I've had enough fanboy swooning over the second game but I've been playing the original religiously since 2005 (Beta) Company of Heroes is the greatest RTS ever made for a reason it's bloody good fun despite some of its more apparent flaws (From what I've seen so far CoH2 has fixed these issues thus far)
Tribes: Ascend: Without a doubt the greatest FPS I've ever played, the thrill of going moderately quick across a map, clearing the flag and landing a cap in under 2 minutes is just unfeasible in other games and in Tribes it just feels right. Similarly lobbing highspeed explosive discs (The faster you go the harder and faster they hit IT'S A WIN-WIN) across the map makes for some pretty beautiful skirmishes (Who can't forget their first Blue Plate?) I love this game so much and soon as the holidays are over and regular schedules resume I'm restarting the weekly games (To those of you who put it in your favourites list I expect to see you in at least one game...Bobby)
Mechwarrior Online: I've always been a fan of mechwarrior games ever since way back as a kid when my father played the tabletop and let me watch him play the original Mechwarrior video games. It's an incredibly fun mech simulator (Well it's THE mech simulator) and it's even better to play with friends. Also go Hunchback or go home. Or go Jenner you'll just have to deal with the fact that you can't hug anyone, but don't worry I'll still love you.
Empire Total War: I've always loved the Total War games but there's just something special about Empire, the thrill of absolute world domination, cannon fire rippling down an established battle line, watching thousands of muskets fire in unison before a devastating bayonet charge. While earlier Total War games, more focused on melee combat often forcing me to zoom in on one or two individual troops Empire lets me sit back and revel in a victory ultimately resultant of my own positioning, planning and reactive abilities.

Holy fuck balls, GW2 has not gotten enough sweet sweet loving in this thread.
because it wasn't very good?
I mean: it wasn't as big a disappointment as Diablo III, but it was not the game I had been looking forward to getting for the years since its announcement. Personally, I was expecting Guild Wars 2, and got World of Warcraft: Guild Wars Edition instead, which I guess is fine for some folks...

the similarities between WoW and Guild Wars 2 end at MMO
Not that I like Angry Joe, but he pretty much hits every point as to why I'm sinking 100's of hours into GW2

That's enough, but perhaps you're right. I should have said that what I got, instead of Guild Wars 2, is Guild Wars Online.
I did not enjoy Guild Wars 2, very much disappointed with it. Of course my exceptions were pretty high and it only met a few of them. I guess it's just me, after years of playing WoW it seems that every MMO looks the same, not really into grinding that much for items or whatever and then finding out that there is an even better item and then I have to start the entire cycle over again. It was fun the first couple times, but now it just gets boring and repetitive.

The 5-year-old got Skylanders for Christmas and we've been playing through it. A lot of fun, and we've got about 10 hours into it already. I'm not 100% sure which of us is enjoying the game more, though

In no particular order:
Tribes:Ascend Shakes up the "General FPS" mechanics in a good way, and I love it for it. Never played (or heard of) the earlier entries in the series so all the magic of it is new to me.
Monster Hunter Tri Released in 2009. Still playing it and loving it. More on that later.
Mists of Pandaland Say what you want (cause you are entitled to it, and, for the most part, are probably justified hehe) but Mists of Pandaria is on my list. I've been fortunate enough to have great people to play with WoW for years and they are for sure what keeps me coming back. The story, new mechanics (I mean this in a general sense. Not just fighting.) , and more keep me and my WoWhead friends occupied and entertained for the most part. It does have it's own problems, but I've managed to grow tough skin as to these things from MMOs in general.
Team Fortress 2 I try to be a freeloader when it comes to online games (higher education institutions do that to ya.) One is enough thank you. *Glares at Pandaland* So when TF2 went F2P last year I tried it. Was interesting but didn't keep me hooked at first. THEN I found Icrontic and then TF2 began to shine for me. In an approximate quote from an MvM match in regards to #Hats and more:
Prime: "Damn it Digi, you got me doing it now!" BobbyDigi: " Your welcome!
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion Same as the first, but with extra trimmings and spit-shine. I loved the first so this is naturally up there. While you arguably get little for the price (assuming you're "upgrading" from the previous entry) it's still an all around good RTS that I enjoy to spend hours on.
Honorable Mentions (since it's hard for me to only list 5)
League of Legends Similar to TF2, I found this last year. Not similar to TF2, it kept me hooked before I found others to play with. This was my first taste of MOBA style PvP and I enjoyed it despite how callous some players can be in it. Even though it is a team game there are still moments and "roles" that can require you to go on your own which I enjoy from time to time other times I'm supporting. The main problem I have with it is not how mean some can get, but how "perfectionist" and my lack of confidence I get with it. It's great to play when I can get around those though.
Guild Wars 2 I love its mechanics, style and story. I love most of what the GAME is. My problem was the lack of friends to play with. That is my own problem though as I never attempted to make any new friends there or really communicate/play with the Icrontic guild.
Skyrim As someone mentioned somewhere: "Skyrim is Game of EVERY Year!" I completely agree and didn't list it because it was over qualified, and I wanted other games to shine as well lol
LoZ: Skyward Sword Came out last year. I didn't get to play it till this past Summer. Enjoyed it, heartily.
5. The Darkness 2 – The storyline was very dark and enjoyable. The combat was also very interesting in that you have 2 demon like serpents on your shoulders waiting for your command to slaughter everyone in your path.
4. Guild Wars 2 - A very good MMORPG that I can always go back to and never have to pay a monthly fee for it.
3. League of Legends - A very fun competitive game that I enjoy playing with my fellow Icrontians.
2. Skyrim - I will be playing this game for a very long time. While the storyline lacks the combat and huge world make up for it. There is always something in this game I miss and then enjoy later on. It's nice that they are providing more DLC content to this game. It makes me want to reroll and play again.
1. The Walking Dead - This game is probably one of the best games I have ever played. It has a mass effect like storyline where everything you do comes back to bite you in the butt later in the end game. Lastly never have I been so emotionally touched by a game. In the final episode I shed a tear of sadness for what happened (Not saying any spoilers). I would highly recommend buying this one.
My 11 year old nephew has a backpack full of that skylander stuff. Pretty crazy, especially when his 2 and 3 year old siblings just randomly remove all his dudes from the pad.
It's ok though, his dad got him a bunch of DnD rule books, we have him going down the best path.
Our 3 year old does the same thing. When I was testing out the new portal (original one was busted, which seemed like a pretty common issue), he kept wanting to switch every 10 seconds or so.
