Hey, My mother recently dropped her phone in water. after having it water treated we turned it on and it booted normally, then we powered it down and put the sim in it. When we put the battery back in this screen instantly showed up without pressing the power button.

Any ideas on what it's doing/how to get rid of it?

How long has it been like that? Did it finish downloading?

How did you treat for water, and how long? That is called ODIN mode. It's used to restore firmware on Samsung devices, and is accessed by powering on the device with volume keys and power button both held.

If it came up on its own, the device is toast.

It never did but with some investigation we found it was a common problem with water damaged devices

In an airtight container of silica gel packs for about 10 hours disassembled. It's the same way we treated my old iPod touch and that's still kicking now after being drowned in a pool of dirty water for about a minute.

May have been worth it to treat it for another few days.

Suffice it to say, yes, this menu is theoretically only accessible by holding down a combination of volume and power buttons to power the device on. If it's occurring with no user interaction, there's a short and/or damaged hardware at play.
