Well the ole' G15 V1 finally packed it in...

Hey all the ole' G15 finally started the backlight flicker and keys not registering. :(

So I have compiled a short list of possible replacements, trying to keep it around the $100 mark give or take. Since I am North of the 49th, there are no chances of referbished BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth 2013's from Woot...

I also can't get any ultra sweet Tony Bennett Special Editions from Tuesday Morning :( but I digress...

Here is the short list I have chosen with links, but I am fully open to opinions and other suggestions.

Cooler Master is the one I have heard best about South of the 49th.

Thanks @Straight_Man I have a like for that CM one.
  • Personally I prefer the linear keys for gaming. The blacks and reds are both good choices. I like the blacks because the extra tension required to depress them fully keeps me from bottoming out when I type. There really isn't a bad choice there though. I have a less expensive Cooler Master QuickFire pro. I'm pleased with it. I tried the Corsair K60 as well, I really liked that too.

Thanks @Cliff_Forster The CM is backlit which I like but that K60 is tempting as well with the aluminum base...

That K60 looks pretty sweet. Backlit keys seem cool, but I rarely look at the keyboard when I type so backlit keys wouldn't even be noticable to me.
  • The cooler master also opts for a detachable, replaceable USB cable. It is a nice touch, it makes traveling for lan a little easier, it's nice to know if you want you can go find a longer or shorter cable to best suit your desk. There are channels to route the cable right, left or straight out. It's a little touch, but I like it.

I think my next buy is going to be one of the Cooler Master ten keyless models. Save some desk space, clean things up even more.

I play in a fairly dark environment so the backlit keys are a plus to me.

The detachable cable is a plus, I have a pile of various length mini USB cables. I also looked at those CM keyboards with the cursor keys under the Enter key and no keypad... I've got lots of space so I'll stick with a full size board.
