PCI E 3.0 x16 GPU backwards compatible to PCI E 2.0 x16 motherboard?
So first, let me say being an adult sucks. Instead of building a new PC, I'm just going to upgrade my current setup and buy a new water heater. So the question is, would it be a better idea to:
1. Buy a GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 for when I do upgrade my motherboard to PCI Express 3.0 x16?
or
2. Buy a GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
My current board is EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI . Will the first choice be backwards compatible with the board? Or will I see better performance with the higher bit, lower RAM, 2.0 second choice?
