Gigabyte 7vkml motherboard, km266 chipset
amd xp 2000+
kingston value 266mhz 256mb

when the system turns on, I get 8 short beeps, which according to the ami bios should be bad ram or video ram
I've tried 2 different video cards, the onboard video and 2 different sticks of ram, and still get the 8 beeps. I've tried removing the video and the ram, and now I get 2 beeps. Also tried changing the psu, disconnecting all drives and clearing the cmos. I'm lost.
Bad board?

2 short - Memory parity error A memory parity error has occurred in the first 64K of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad
8 short - Display memory read/write error The system video adapter is missing or defective

Final test, stick another CPU in.. if you have one... always the last chance..

Have you verified the RAM & GPU work in other rigs? :)

yeah, I know the ram works fine and the video card also works fine. I'll throw my spare 1800 in there tonight to verify.

    Thanks Shorty.

    Hello

Look at this link then check your caps.

    http://www.overclockers.com/tips00140/

I have a dead board that has no beeps at all.
The caps are bad.....time for a new board.

    Cheers
