Has anyone installed this on a pc they built? I realise it is propriatary and your supposed to by the PC with the OS installed but I dont want do it that way. In other words I would rather not pay 1000$ for something I could build for ~600$.

Any experience with this at all? Im thinking about building a Shuttle type media center PC.

AFAIK it works on a Shuttle XPC, so I don't see why it shouldn't work with any other PC.

I think it will work on anything XP Pro will work on. I was curious about it myself, but where can you get it? I haven't seen it for sale anywhere without buying a whole machine.

I am sure it can be acquired if you look hard enough. My only concern is if it can be bios locked somehow to the machine it was originally installed and purchased on. I wonder if I could buy an OEM copy somehow. I do not believe you can just buy the standalone OS. I have seen it for download on some of the questionable sites. But I would rather not use a pirated version. Anyone buy a media center pc and wanna trade XP licenses?

If you find a place to get it, let me know. I am interested in trying it out on my htpc. I've been looking for quite awhile now with no luck.

I've installed it on a machine I built. Needless to say, it will complain if it cannot see one of the few remote controls i'ts made to work with, there are clipping/video problems on many of the menus, and the TV capibility only functions with only a few tuners.

In the end, I ended up imaging the drive back to the way it was (I had a backup). The "Media Center" portion of the OS is not much more than an application running in XPPro. Furthermore, the Media Center application itself barely works with hardware outside of what it was actually built for.
