No sound for AIW TV

I have an AIW 9700 Pro and a NF7-M, when I first got it I had no troubles with the sound on the TV tuner feature. I recently opened up the TV and found that I had no sound, I tried reinstalling drivers - still the same problem. Well I was due for a format so I did that and installed the newest video and sound drivers - still no sound. I've double checked to make sure the cables were hooked up properly and I've tried multiple holes for it. Any ideas on what could be wrong? TIA

Jeff... :banghead:

Not sure if this will help but I got this from an old AIW installation and setup user's guide:

To select the sound card connector for TV audio input

The sound card connector determines which mixer slider is controlled by the ATI Multimedia Center's volume slider.

1 Click the Setup button in the TV Player control panel, then click the Display tab.

2 Click the Initialization Wizard button, then click the Next button twice to open the TV Sound Initialization Wizard.

3 Click the audio input that matches the connection between your ATI card and your sound card. If you are not sure how it is connected, click each source (CD Audio, Line-in, etc.), and listen for the sound.

When I would re-format and re-install that old card, I always had to play with the TV Sound Initialization Wizard to get the sound for the TV.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards, Alex.

I have tried multiple settings in the sound option of the ATI Multimedia Center's settings and I've tried all the ports on my sound card.. no sound at all. Sound will play through Winamp so i know thats working alright. It's got to be either my sound card or the sound from my AIW. What would be a good way of testing that? I'm getting a picture, just no sound. I also have a TV hooked up to the same coax cable and it gets sound and picture perfect. I've tried switching the cables on the spliter and that didn't work.

Not too sure what to tell you at this point.
I did have a mishap with that card though. I used to have a really small case and would tinker with the harddrive alot (I was making prototype harddrive coolers at the time). One time instead of being patient and removing the video card, I tried pulling the hardrive out with the video card in place, very bad decision on my part. I broke one of the soldered connections from the audio chip to the video card, so it was tough to figure out what the problem was. To fix the problem I had break the soldered connection that was still holding the audio chip to the graphics card and solder 2 wires to the audio chip and to the video card to fix the situation. I sincerely hope that something like this has not happened to you, or to anyone else. Inspect the connections of the chips carefuly on the video card, accidents can and do happen. :(
Apart from that, I truly can't offer any more help, very sorry.
    Regards, Alex.

Well thanks for your help. I will try looking at the video card to make sure nothing's wrong with it. That way I can re-seat it also. I'll post with a report...

One last thing, those dinky little audio cables are pretty fragile themselves, if you've got some extra ones lying around do try them out.

try this - i've had some really odd compatibility problems with my Audigy and my AIW too, and what i've found is that certain combinations of ati's mmc and creative's drivers just REALLY dont like each other. my suggestion to you is to try rolling back the mmc to a previous version - i've found 8.5 to be the most stable. see if that helps

That would make since, I'm using a newer version of the drivers so that could be the problem. Good idea :respect:

you ought to be able to keep the newer catalysts though, as those shouldn't affect the tuner sound. i'd think all that needs to be changed is the mmc... and if i remember correctly theres a driver for the TV Tuner on the Driver CD that i dont think has ever been updated. you could also try reinstalling that

I installed the newest MMC (8.8) after I uninstalled 8.5. Same problem. ;[ I still need to look at my video card. I tried play my dvd player through the input and no sound there either so I'm thinking it's the video card or cables. I'm going to try and barrow a friends cable (cough park cough) and see if it will work with a different cable if that doesn't work, its got to be either the sound card inputs or the video card, right? I have a spare sound card somewhere that I can try to use.

I seem to remember there needing to be a cable that goes from your AIW to your sound card. It's on one of the TV-Out dongles if i'm not mistaken.

Did that the other day, didn't help any.

BTW: You think I could use your AIW -> sound card cable sometime soon to test?

Yeah. I'll take a look at your 9700 when I drop off your Hyper-X and pick up the other parts tomorrow or the next day -- you can give it a try then.

My AIW lost it's left-channel sound because the POS I/O dongle has really weak pins. You might check to see if the pins on your extrernal I/O dongle (if yours uses one) are bent or missing.

Park and I found the problem. We stuck another sound card in there and it started working. So my onboard NF7-M sounds input is jacked somehow, but atleast I know my video card is ok. Thanks for you help!
