New system, want to max it out!!!

Just got an Abit "NF7", Barton 2500, and an Aspire X-Dreamer II. I am loading it with fans (2 80mm in back, 2 60mmin front, 1 80mm on side, 1 80mm on top) and I want to max this thing out. I am just using Kingston 512 PC2100 right now but I will be upgrading to Corsair XMS PC3200 soon. I am modding the case out so the unit will recieve maximum airflow, and I have looked all over at diferent ways to overclock and I have seen stuff like adjusting the mulitplyer (duh!!!) to using super glue and tape to combine the bridges. This seems like a bad idea to me and I don't want to screw this up right out of the box. I know you all can help and I am just looking for some sound advice to get the most out of this system.

    1. Don't be afraid to play with fans. Which should blow in and which out (always a little more out). Some may not even be helping. Cooling takes more than just noise.
    2. You may want more headroom than 3200 on the memory. These systems cook, you don't want mem holding you back.

Maybe PC3500? The board says it supports up to DDR400 but I assume that can be adjusted? What memory suggestions do you have? Shoul I start with BIos or jumpers on the board?

Yep pc3500 is the way to go. I would stay away from the 2500 Bartons since they are locked and go with a mobile 2400 or 2500. I just got one in and I'm getting some good results. 2.4 on air 90% stable and 2.362 100%stable at 1.65v. I'm sure after I do some more tweaking I will have 2.4 stable.

Got everything in and I can't seem to get the 3200+ to stick... After the FSB is changed in BIOS, it has issues booting and when it finally does, it just hangs on the initial Energy star screen. it says that thew CPU has been changed and won't go to windows, I get redirected to BIOS and have to change it back. What should I do?

What ram are you using right now? Still the 2100? If so its the ram. You need some ram that will run 200 FSB (DDR400). Unless you run a divider, for that ram it would be 3:2 or DDR266.

Yea. Don't expect an overclock out of your current system. Even running your 2500+ at stock is really pushing your pc2100 far since the pc2100 runs at 133stock and the Barton runs at 166stock. Buy some new ram. My suggestion: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-150-564&catalog=147&depa=0 Comes with winbond ch5 chips which are excellent overclockers.

I have an NF7 too. You must make sure you have enabled the "CPU Interface" in the bios. Otherwise, the bios thinks the chip is still at stock speed and errors with the OC'ed settings. I had the same problem when I had to clear my CMOS and forgot to enable it after trying some new settings.

Good luck. from what I hear 2.4ghz is about right for a Barton. Finding it somewhat harder to get 2.4ghz out of my Thoroughbred:
