Weird display signal issues

I have 2x Dell UltraSharp U2410 and an HP ZR24w connected to an AMD Radeon HD 7750. I want all three displays connected to HDMI switches.

Scenario 1 works as expected:
DisplayPort -> Dell (direct to GPU)
HDMI -> Dell (through HDMI switch)
DVI -> HP (via DVI-HDMI adapter through HDMI switch)

Scenario 2 works as expected:
DisplayPort -> Dell (direct to GPU)
HDMI -> Dell (through HDMI switch)
DVI -> HP (via DVI-HDMI adapter through HDMI switch)

Scenario 3 works as expected:
DisplayPort -> Not connected
HDMI -> Dell (through HDMI switch)
DVI -> Not connected

Scenario 4 doesn't work as expected:
DisplayPort -> Dell (active DP->DVI->HDMI through HDMI switch)
HDMI -> Dell (via DVI-HDMI adapter through HDMI switch)
DVI -> HP (through HDMI switch)

Scenario 5 doesn't work as expected:
DP -> Not connected
HDMI -> Dell (through HDMI switch)
DVI -> Dell (via DVI-HDMI adapter through HDMI switch)

Scenario 6 doesn't work as expected:
DisplayPort -> Not connected
HDMI -> Not connected
DVI -> Dell (via DVI-HDMI adapter through HDMI switch)

Now here's the weird part: Windows recognizes that all three displays are connected, and I can manipulate their settings just fine through CCC and Win7's display properties. If I unplug the working Dell display, the other starts displaying its proper image. This also happens if I remove the HP display from the equation entirely and have both Dells on DVI and HDMI.

It also does not matter which Dell display is plugged into an adapter. The results are the same.

My first thought was the DisplayPort kludge might be due to too many adapters, but the fact that scenarios 5 and 6 don't work concerns me - this card is supposed to support two non-DP signals. I've tried active DP->DVI adapters, both USB powered and unpowered with no success. I have an active DP->HDMI adapter on its way. Hopefully that'll solve the problem, but I kind of doubt it at this point.

To make matters weirder, if I maximize Chrome on the HP display, it loses its signal. Unmaximize it and the signal returns. WTF?

    I can't offer any advice, but agree with your final sentence.
