Linux router problems
Ok, here's my problem: I have a Linux box running Redhat 9 with two NICs installed. I want to use the Linux box as a router to share an internet connection with a seperate Windows machine (running XP Pro). I'm having trouble getting it to work. Here's how everything is set up:
Linux box:
Enabled IP fowarding
eth0 uses DHCP to obtain IP address/DNS
eth1 IP address set to 198.168.1.1
Patch cable running from cable modem to eth0/patch cable running from eth1 to the NIC in the windows machine.
How do I configure the windows box as a client of the Linux machine? On the Windows box, don't I need to set the gateway to 198.168.1.1 (eth1 on Linux box), give the windows box an ip address like 198.168.1.2, and netmask of 255.255.255.0?
I know I should set up a firewall on the linux machine but, I'm more interested in just getting it working right now.
Thanks,
Greg
