Yeah I'm going to get another cable to test before I look into a new monitor.

what confuses me is that the screen looks fine at one and only one resolution and turns to complete shit at others. Screen refresh rate affects it a little but not much. Right now I've got it at 1600 x 1200 and it's stable. But when I first noticed it becoming a problem lowering the refresh rate fixed it for awhile but the problem came back after a few days and then got way worse to the point where it's almost impossible to tell what you're looking at.

And now for the (hopefully) end of my hilariously awful troubleshooting skills. I went and bought a new dvi cable to see if the cable went bad. Hooked up new cable and problems persist. Did some more reading about issues with my monitor model. Found this brilliant piece of advice. "Turn it off, unplug everything from the display, wait a minute and reattach it all."

Monitor is now 100% at 1920x1080 60 hertz refresh rate. It really has been too long since I messed with hardware. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Well, you got a more modern and better computer out of it, at least.

I know that feel, bro. New PSU, RMA MoBo, disassemble and reassemble everything all to discover the pump on the water kit had failed.

But hey, freshly-minted MoBo and new modular PSU. Plus, still running dead cold on air anyway (because my basement door is a portal to Antarctica).
