Recruiting new guildies

I've started a little campaign to actively recruit new guild members. I love us, but we don't have quite enough people to make raiding go smoothly every week, and Dan and I would love to have full guild raids without having to look for pugs (pugs who are willing to pug heroics no less) every Thursday and Sunday.

We're not slowing down even though WoD is coming in two months; we're making progress every week in heroics and, I'll tell you, we're having a goddamned blast doing it. Every week when we down a new heroic boss or make significant progress against another one, we all talk about how shaky, excited, and adrenaline-rushed we are. It's so fun right now.

We've gotten very lucky recently and made a couple of new friends via oQueue (hi @cull and @sonofgods!) but they're not server/guild transferring (which is totally understandable). I just wanted to make everyone aware that if you see some new faces/names around, that's probably me finding new people to raid with us.

Told you you were facing the wrong way in that picture, @CannonFodder‌ !

Note that an increase in members of the guild may require an increase in the number of raids. I can only bring 10 at a time to my raids, and I'm only going to continue running Thursdays and Sundays, I won't add more days (my schedule barely allows). If someone else wants to build out a second raid group at whatever level, or possibly start a flex night for some of our lower ilevel folks (like @GnomeWizardd‌ ), that might be a good way to bring people in.

As we continue to grow, I'm going to have to ask people to sit, and I'm really anxious about doing that. A second raid group would really help alleviate that.

Dan, we can't be a perfect 10-person guild, that just doesn't happen. People are going to fully expect to be sitting out; it's not a problem if we grow. All big guilds in the game deal with this every day. We're not going to lose friends over it.

I really appreciate you leading the heroic raids and definitely don't expect you to take on additional responsibilities if you can't. Other people can lead raids, it's totally okay. If we don't have a second "main" raid group, that's okay too.

If I may share a little personal experience gained from raiding for 14 years, sometimes at the highest levels of the game in EQ and WoW:

Having two raid teams never works. It inevitably ends in drama: "A team took all the good people!" or "We don't have enough for two, so now team B is fucked!" It's much better to lottery sit outs and let certain people just have whole nights off if they want it. This is proven to work; two groups is not.

I agree 100%. I don't think we should ever have multiple groups. Just one, with a lottery. That's how everybody does it.

I also think there are quite a few people who would gladly sit out and let others get gear, if we have too many. Myself included.

I'll join the guild and sit out every time if that will help...

You should join us for the next expansion!

  • You guys are forgetting when 6.0 comes out (not wod but the pre-patch) normals and heroics will be Flexible raids. No more worrying about this!
