Getting crappy scores with 3DMark01

edited February 2004 in Hardware
I just bought an Athlon 2500+, A7N8X with 512 PC3200 memory, along with my old GeForce3 card.

I ran 3DMark01 on a fresh XP install with latest video and nForce drivers from nvidia's site. I got a score of about 7000. I compared my score to other identical profiles on the result browser, and people have an average of 9 to 10,000. I thought maybe they overclocked, but their CPU speeds all are about 1800 mhz, just like mine.

What could I be doing wrong here?

There are A LOT of things you can do to increase your score. Tweak your OS, lower RAM timings, OC your vid card, different drivers, and more.

Do you think it would make that big a difference? From 7,000 to 12,000? My old T-Bird 700 was getting 4,500.
