Expo 2015 Lodging
I'm starting this thread early because the place I normally stay (the Courtyard in Dearborn) fills up pretty quickly - the rooms with two beds are nearly sold out for Expo dates.
I'm booked there from June 22-28. This will be the third time I'm staying there. It's quiet, clean, and they have breakfast (not free). There are also several restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
Edit: It's about a 15 minute drive, same as @Thrax's recommendation

And for those of you who don't want to fight for rooms:

+ Hotline car rental bargaining with National
= cheaper than Dearborn Courtyard, plus you conveniently have a car so you don't have to depend on other people!
Yeah, it's a 15-minute drive. You'll live.
ICHQ Attic Master Race
The attic last year was perfectly comfortable. Granted, it didn't get STUPID hot, but it still was pretty regular hot at times.
should i try to reserve a space in the attic now?
It's more like you show up and find a spot where your stuff fits. First one there gets the best selection. Last one gets the stairs. No, not next to them...on them.
ok, cool...if push comes to shove, i could always sleep in my car.
nope.jpg, everyone sleeps inside, no freaking out my neighbors, also safety.
hehe, good point
Nothing to see here!
If you can't find a place to crash at ICHQ you're doing it wrong. Or you're not exhausted enough.
To the attic question: What would be considered acceptably early for setting up without offending anyone?
Tomorrow
Well then
May.
Really: June 19/20 is when I am fully prepared for folks to arrive. We prefer early arrivals to late departures. If you arrive before June 22 you will likely be conscripted for a home improvement / expo preparation project.
If London, ON wasn't 2 hours away I would totally suggest staying there
I have a hot tip that the house 2 doors down on Avery is on AirBnB.
If it is the same one i am thinking of, the Cincinnati crew grabbed it already
I have a hot tip that it was quite a struggle to grab it, the guy didn't want to rent it to us since we weren't a film crew.
Indeed. We all put in requests for it at different times months ago and were declined. As it was we were only able to get it from Wednesday - Friday nights since he rented it to someone else starting Saturday. Apparently he wanted a much longer rental at one time rather than the Wed-Sat that we wanted.
Did you drop my name? I don't know him personally, but it's a small neighborhood. I don't mind having a word with someone if it helps in the future.
I'll give it a shot after this. If he feels we're good tenants maybe we can make a standing reservation with him.
That was my thoughts. I will have to do a little bit of work virtual teaching, so having a place that I could go that was nearby and relatively quiet why working with students was a huge draw for me. Plus no lines for bathroom or shower is another major plus.
Are you guys full up in it?
We did fill er up.
Yea we did!! I call not-earhole.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I don't want to know what this means.
Well @Linc If there's four of us, and we fill er up, I don't want the earhole.
DVDA leaves the ears open.
This may be true, but I don't like you guys enough to DVDA.
