Core 2 Duo or Athlon 64 X2 and what memory to use?

hey guys. I have both an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and a Core 2 Duo E6400. It seems the Core 2 Duo is better, so I'm thinking that is the way to go for my rig. Also, I have DDR2 4200. Is that sufficient to run at 1066Mhz FSB. I see lots of people getting DDR2800, but will it really make that much of a performance difference? Thanks for any info.

Also AMD is slower right now, but chips are a bit cheaper in the AM2 line making the AM2 a good choice as Quad cores will drop into the current AM2 line
