I played the game for an hour so far. I really like the melee combat. If you ever played the game Condemned, the combat is very similar. One thing I don't like is the stereotyping. For example the melee specialist is an African american from New Orleans. The whole character bio about his mom being on crack, not having a dad, living like a gangsta, etc. The character is like a page out of the inappropriate stereotype handbook. Worse you spend the first 30 minutes of the game looting. Oh look, I just woke up from being drunk and no one is around. Guess I'll see what is in everyone's suitcase. After that it gets better but I haven't meet many of the NPCs yet. Just a life guard and a couple of survivors.

I just read that there is a patch coming out today and it completely breaks saves. So hold up on playing.

From the limited press I've read on it, sounds like the game is unbelievably buggy. There's a game-breaking glitch that allows you to enter noclip mode with the press of a single button.

The fact that their upcoming patch has been announced to break save games shouldn't be surprising at this point. Techland has no idea what they're doing. They should have spent less money on the first trailer for the game and more time on making the game, you know, good.

I played it for 2 hours and didn't experience a single bug or issue. I didn't turn no clip mode on though.

According to this post a dev build was accidentally pushed to Steam. True? Who knows, but it would explain the noclip and the bugs.

What happened to unique characters? Everyone wakes up in the same room dazed and confused. Why can't I fight the first mob of zombies? I don't want to run. I'm no pansy, I'm a kung-fu kicking Chinese girl.

    Annoying bugs so far:
The game freezes every 2-3 minutes.
Can't unbind the "F" (use) key.
Voice Chat in multiplayer caused enormous frame drops for everyone in the host's room.
Can't progress story, I'm stuck at some glitched gate.

That looks perfectly terrible. Who let this go gold?

For whatever reason, Valve didn't release the gold master through steam. Instead it was a beta version with dev codes. That is the only reason why we can see this. it is just funny. Being in first person you don't see it.

are they releasing the not stupid version soon or are we all stuck with this? It's not a bad game but it is pretty buggy and the no clip thing is actually horrible. If a friend goes into a building or sewer or something while you're in no clip you lose everything and start at level one as the character who entered the new area.

"the correct version of the title is now available on Steam and fans are able to download it now." - according to the Dead Island Website it is available as of 9/7/2011
I don't know for sure if it is or not but i saw that on there website and thought i might as well post it here

Anyway to verify it on your computer? The update page in steam mentions nothing about an update being installed.

Dev build. You could do the same thing with Mirror's Edge, which looked equally as goofy.

Game's made for first person perspective, not third.

my version seems to be perfectly fine, having a lot of fun with the game as well, nothing like curb stomping a few zombies after a long day.

It's been patched for awhile and the servers finally went back online yesterday. The game can now be played as it was supposed to be played. This is an incredibly fun game, like Borderlands it is highly recommended that it's played four player.

Me, Eggy, and Pokebunny played together last night and we had a blast.

I would like to see the rubber arms animation be the default on all platforms. I might actually play it then.

Just stayed up all night and did a start-to-finish run of the game. 11 hours total for a full group of 4 different characters just doing main quests with minimal side-questing. We ended the game at level 34~37. Well worth $30ish especially now that multiplayer is working properly.

I hate to admit it but I'm getting bored of Dead Island. The missions are so rinse and repeat. The Zombies and others are always in the same place, every time. If you have already been through an area once, you know where everything is. After the 6th time going through the same area it gets really dull. Also the auto leveling is really extreme and silly. Same zombies, just more hit points. I'm around level 20 and and Zombies no longer die when run over by a car. It loses its fun quickly.

Well, would a real zombie die when you simply run it over with a car? NO, its more realistic. /neverplayedit

Depends on your zombie lore. Generally speaking though, if you manage to run over their head, yes.

I mean zombies are already technically dead so running them over can't kill them...

How far are you? Zombies start coming in a wider variety in the later stages of the game and the fact that you start dealing with gun wielding humans really starts to make for a challenge.

Tried out some dead island tonight. Had a few randoms join in. Some higher level guys that kept skipping the cut scenes and running off activating quests that didn't make any sense since I didn't get to hear the story. Maybe I'll start over. Still looking forward to playing with some Icrontians.

I will tentatively play with you, I'm not a huge fan of this game but I haven't really had friends to play with which might improve the game somewhat
