I have some observations based on the last few days of playing Duos and Squad games.
Outdoor areas with shade, trees and rocks are far better to conceal yourself in than buildings once you have some gear.
Spend as little time as possible getting the essentials. Ideally you should find a rifle, ammo, optics, vest, backpack, helmet and some medical supplies. Once you have those items, looting further becomes an unnecessary risk. Not only do you risk enemies trapping you indoors, I find that extra looting can lead to poor time management and results in racing to the next zone with a poor travel plan.
Avoid having to swim to the next zone at all costs.
Dropping into major cities and points of interest is extremely risky, such as the military base or power plant.
Avoiding conflict until the last few zones seems to be the way to go. There are less players to hone in on your location the longer you wait to engage in a firefight, though the play area is smaller.
Vehicles are not necessarily a bad way to travel, but you have to be careful not to wreck, as well as expose you and your team too much traversing open ground.
I recommend spending a little time reading up on how you can determine range via the optics and map, maybe we can add some of that information here for people to read and discuss. Knowing when a contact is too far away to engage early on will conserve ammo and keep you concealed.
There are some other basics that should taken into consideration while playing a tactical game like this, but that's for another day. I'll edit this later to make it more easily read.
I'm not going to say I'm now a walking PUBG encyclopedia, but I have read every article on the first five pages of Google, plus every tips megathread on Reddit. Multiple times.
Want to know how to rangefind with a 4x ACOG? I can help. No ACOG? I still gotchu, fam. Need to know where to drive, or what gun shoots the farthest? Yeah, I can help with that. Does a level 3 vest confer higher AC, or more HP?
Find me on Discord. Let's talk PUBG. Then let's play PUBG until our wives are mad at us.
In addition to getting armor and backpack upgrades:
You have to modulate all this advice with storage space, so don't just run around unable to pick stuff up
1) if you are in a group, don't start looting a house that someone else is already in (unless there aren't more houses than people)
2) if you have an open slot, pick up any weapon you find (only exception, don't pick up 2 shotties, maybe don't pick up two of the same weapon)
3) until your weapons are finalized, you should always pick up:
ammo:
5.56 ammo
7.62 ammo
9mm
attachments:
extended mag (or extended quickdraw)
all optics/scopes (especially in a group - redistribute back at vehicle and/or when you move to next loot site)
silencers
all AR/SMG attachments
all Sniper attachments (though these use a lot of space)
choke, bullet loops if you have shotty
(don't keep a bunch of duplicates, but check with squadmates)
4) after you're kitted out (AR + 2ndary), call out any ARs or snipers (kar98, sks) you don't need/want, or are going to drop. Take the ammo and redistribute after looting even if someone does want the weapon (this is in case they find another)
5) always pick up meds (painkillers, energy drink, first aid kit, medkit). If you end up with too many (not possible, imo) - share with teammates
6) all grenades, all smokes.
Smokes take a lot of inventory space, so you'll probably need to pass them by, but they're really useful late game
ok, so now you (and your squad) are kitted out. you've wrecked another squad, and it's relatively safe to loot.
pick up the following - this is my order, pending any pressing other needs:
1) painkillers / energy drinks / first aid kits (they're at the top)
2) helmet
3) armor
4) backpack
5) scopes (4/8x)
6) ammo
7) any attachments / weapon upgrades (eg, grabbing a sniper to replace shotty)

There's nothing weird about three dudes in a small bathroom. Don't judge.
