We have a new law. Duh!

Congratulations responsible retailers. As your reward for doing your job well without government intervention thus far, the federal government would like to threaten you with fines. Keep up the good work... or else.

Again, that's our point. The ESRB works right now. What, precisely, is gained by turning it into a law?

Damn it, I'm agreeing with Snark again :confused2

Coldalarm, there is no winning this one.....

Yeah Coldalarm, normally I would be insufferable and troll everyone just for fun, but right, is right, is right. I can't make an intelligent argument that I don't even believe in for why government intervention makes any sense. It just a waste of time and energy for a bunch of people that could be solving a real problem.

Games are not killing anyone. Kids will be subject to moral defects as long as parents don't care, and frankly, the current system with the ESRB with the participation of the major retailers is doing a fine job.

You are alone on this one.

Perhaps, Cliff. It's a situation I've grown up in and as such my view is different to that of others.

It's not going to make a difference to the average gamer nor for the major stores, so I just don't really understand why people are so against it. Is it just because it's viewed to be unnecessary or is it something else? I support this law, even though it doesn't affect me personally, because of what it aims to do.

The law will cost money, time, and resources for something that is already policed without a law.

I am sure there are plenty of law enforcement agencies all over the country that would love to just receive some free money. Send it there instead of putting a law into effect that is already "in effect".

    Do you get it now?

Ryder, has it here. It will cost money, and time our government doesnt need to be wasting on something that already works without them...maybe they should work on something different...I could think of a few things ;)

New laws are fine, when necessary, but for once an industry is policing itself and actually doing it well. Let them be.

Coldalarm, I think the differences between our cultures and the way our governments work are definitely at play here. I'm not saying which is right or which is wrong, but growing up under different governmental structures will lead to different opinions on these types of situations.

Where are the Tea Party protesters on this one? I thought they were against government intervention into our personal lives. Seriously though, I throw my support firmly behind what Snark, Thrax and Cliff have all said.

Oh, and as for the MPAA, that rating system is incredibly broken. Just check out "This Film is Not Yet Rated" (Netflix streaming ftw) for more information about that then you could ever want. If the government should be overhauling a rating system, that's the one they should be focused on. No one cares about movies though, all the political hay lies in video games because most parents don't understand the media.
