More about the Russian watch I posted before with the gold bezel and blue dial. About two weeks after receiving it I noticed that it started having issues sticking and the chrono stopped working. So I sent it off to a reputable watch person in Germany who had a watchmaker clean and rebuild it. While there I had him check authentisity as well as the inscription on the side of the case АФСС (english: AFSS). The watch is what is known as a "PLARB". PLARB or ПЛАРБ means; Podvodnaya Lodka Atomnaya Raketnaya Ballisticheskaya or in English; Nuclear Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine. These were issued to commemorate the building of the fleet of nuclear powered submarines with ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads. While rather rare I have seen pictures of several different watches from this offering of 980 made. Very few are the same and most I have seen have black or white dials. Most also have silver or painted black bezels. So the fact that mine has a gold case and bezel with blue dial made me question its authenticity. While very little is known of a lot of Russian watches of the past I thought it best to have it checked by someone knowledgeable from that part of the world. The AFSS inscribed on the case, gold bezel and deep blue dial indicate that it is one of the rarest PLARB watches. It turns out that most were inscribed with different Naval officer ranks on the case. АФСС or AFSS (Адмирал Флота Cоветского Cоюза) refers to the rank of "Admiral of the fleet of the Soviet Union". It was the highest rank of the Soviet Union Navy and the equivalent of 5 Stars in US forces.
