Re: Video Card Upgrade need help
@BlackHawk is shooting ya straight. Generally you don't want to update a motherboard bios unless you feel like you have a compelling reason. Right now Gateways website seems to be wonky too, support site offline, some research I do see they released some kind of update in 2013 but that may have been to support some new CPU's, generally a bios does not impact graphics compatibility because the card has it's own driver package.
Here is what you want to do. -
- Download this tool - http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
- Run it to nuke your current graphics driver software.
- Remove power, Open the case, carefully remove the card and power supply.
- Install the power supply without the new card in place (it will make it a touch easier)
- Install the new card and plug in the six pin power from the supply there.
- Power up and go here - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download - download the appropriate driver for your operating system
- Install driver package
- Tell us all how it games!
One Year
Another year, another EPIC, the event everyone on here looks forward to, including me (everyone's favorite Generalfeldmarschall (?)). But as I look forward to this event, I look back to last year and think of the memories, both good and bad, and fell like sharing the good, while making up for the bad.
To start, I want to think everyone for their hospitality last year. I was the first time I had ever been out of state by myself. And being in a city where, admittedly, I had heard so much about (mostly negative, unfortunately) was an unknown world to this Autistic 23 year old (22 at the time). I wish to thank @Gargoyle for getting me there and back, as well as apologize for basically talking his ear off both times. I will admit I am a very opinionated and chatty person sometimes.
I wish to thank @primesuspect and @Linc for being able to put up with me during my first trip out there and I wish to apologize to Prime for my moodiness during the TF2 "tourney" (for lack of a better term).
I wish to again apologize to @CB (whom I know may not be attending this year) for being a smartass to him. A lot of my friends know me as a smartass from time to time. To them (and me), it's just us messing around. But doing that to someone I do not know and who doesn't know me was probably a "tactical mistake".
I wish to apologize to @UPSLynx , @UPSKingpin , and @Church4252 for being a little too clingy (wanting to hang with them and them only throughout the event). With you guys being the first I really got to know, for an Autistic, you guys were the "safe zone", people that I knew and I felt okay around. I also wish to apologize for nearly disqualifying you guys from the marble roll contest.
Even though I now have a passport and will be crossing the border, I still DO NOT apologize to Canada for giving them the bird.
So before I start sounding like a Canadian, I will say this: I look forward to being at EPIC this year. I had a lot of fun last year and am grateful to be a part of Icrontic lore ( #SonnyFace2016), and I look forward to the memories that will be made this year.
So when I get to Detroit, I expect one of two things to happen. Either I will walk through the door and receive a warm reception, or based on the events of last year, it will look like, well.........

Anyway, look forward to seeing you all again.

Caveat: I may need assistance cleaning the attic earlier in the week depending on when the roof project happens. If it's done just the week before, it'll be a thing.

Re: Expo 2016: Travel Plans and Guidelines
I'll have a house sleeping signup closer to the event; I neglected to put it on the registration form. @GnomeQueen is correct, it's not a matter of "if" we can fit you but rather what we can offer you comfort-wise. That said, it sounds like we'll have quite a bit of capacity, and I think I picked up a few more sleeping surfaces since last year. We currently have 3 fullsize mattresses, 2 twin mattresses, 4 cots, and room for 3-4 BYO air mattresses.

Re: Expo 2016: Travel Plans and Guidelines
I am most likely going to be in a hotel the entire time. @Levex I don't know you but when has that ever stopped me, if you want to split a hotel let me know.

OK I think I have travel plans secured with Emily and Steven. I'm looking at options for sleeping. I'm on my budget alone here so I am looking to either stay at the house or share a hotel/b&b room or house with a group. I need to do this as cheap as possible or I won't be able to come. So whose still looking to split rooms and is there availability at the house still??
I don't think the house has ever officially run out of room, although we were a bit sardine-y last year.
Re: Video Card Upgrade need help
I'd say if you're not currently experiencing any problems, I don't see why you'd need to upgrade the BIOS. You should consider it if you have any problems after installing your video card, and even then it's probably not that. See if a newer BIOS addresses any problems you're currently having.
