Pandemic Playtime: Boardgames evening
I've added an online boardgames evening this Friday (before Jackbox). It's a bit earlier than some other events (because I'm in Germany) but if you can make it we'll be playing games on boardgamearena.com and voice chatting on Discord. (specific games to play will be decided in the moment, but you can see the wide selections of games on the site.)

Re: Let's get it done
OK, I added some more again ... can do ~4M PPD, but this is likely my max. It's everything at home and any worthwhile spare hardware at the office.
Let's Wine about lockdown.
So, to deal with being stuck inside I have begun expanding my pallet. Found a decent wine, Back Home Again Red Wine. Very light as red goes, sweet but not oppressively so, and under twenty bucks. Overall would recommend. Anyway go go gadget wine thread.
Re: Let's Wine about lockdown.
Yesterday I opened and thoroughly enjoyed the last 1961 Château Brane-Cantenac from my collection. It was absolutely devine even though it was probably just past its peak. There was the typical Margaux velvety glove as well as rich ripe fruit from the nose all the way through to the finish. This was definitely an almost perfect time to enjoy this jewel as I know it was just going to diminish from this point on. Brane-Cantenac is also the first Bordeaux I ever purchased as a 1971 vintage back many years ago when I first got serious about wine.

Pandemic Playtime: The Icrontic Grand Prix
Get your wheels, controllers and keyboards prepped. Radio your pit crew. Icrontic is going racing this Wednesday, April 22nd at 8pm ET (7CT 6PT) with RaceRoom Racing Experience.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/211500/RaceRoom_Racing_Experience/
It's a free racing simulator that's welcoming to all levels of players, even those new to racing sims. No special equipment is needed just show up and blast around a few tracks with us.
Each race track will have a 10 minute practice round, 5 minutes to get in a qualifying lap and a 20 minute race. We have 4 tracks to play on and a few car choices. Everyone will be racing in a similar car to keep things fair. The game itself has all kinds of driving assistance built-in so you can talor the racing to your level and I have the server set to allow user choice of driving aids.
The game itself is fairly large so if you plan of participation (40gb) and I would recommend downloading it in advance. I'll update this thread (and discord) with the server information tomorrow.

Re: Expo Icrontic 2020 is cancelled
After multiple support tickets and ridiculous wait times, we successfully withdrew the GoFundMe proceeds safely to our bank account. Thanks very much again to everyone that contributed.

Re: Half Life Alyx
"For many of us, I don't think it's "grumpiness", it's "it will cost $1000 to play this game""
This is, for the most part, untrue in 2020. The Oculus Rift Quest is all-in-one and costs less than an Xbox and it doesn't need a PC to play at all. With the newly released link cable, you can plug it into your PC and play Rift S quality games while still having the flexibility of play where you want when you want it. I know $400 isn't cheap, but we're far and away from the days of needing $1,200+ worth of upgrades and hardware to be able to play.
VR runs great on mid-tier PC hardware these days. It runs fine on a GeForce 1080, so if you've upgraded or rebuilt your PC in the last four years, you're probably good to go already. As the hardware has improved, the software has also lowered the previously insane high requirements to be able to play VR on your PC.
It also helps that most VR games are priced accordingly. You won't find $60 games - most are around the $15 dollar price point. If a game is more of an hour long experience, you'll typically pay an amount that makes sense for what it is.
