Raid Summary 09/13 - 09/14 2015

Way to come back with a vengeance, IC!

After taking a week off of raiding for the holiday, Icrontic came back strong; we downed our first heroic HFC boss (Hellfire Assault), and two new progression bosses as well (Tyrant Velhari and Mannoroth). We are now 12/13N HFC and 1/13H HFC; not bad for the Little Guild That Could

We've had a lot of people really step up to get us where we are; very special thanks to our raid leader @Myrmidon for guiding us through these successes, @Sazbean for recruiting deeply from her friend pool to help us shore up our raid numbers, old friends @Celsh and @Mikquattro for coming back to help out their little ol' social guild with progression content, @aalonz for his absolutely ridiculous DPS numbers, @DocFrazier for spending his week off learning and gearing for a dual spec so we have another healer to lean on, and all of our new members who have server transferred or rolled new toons on our server, levelled, and geared up to help get us back to a full guild group. You all rock!

Onward! It seems pretty clear that we'll finally be toppling Archimonde and thwarting Gul'Dan's plan for Draenor soon. Congrats again, IC! Also don't forget to pre-pot.

As soon as you walk out of your small abode, the game promises that it will be true to the important things.

My first enemies! They're... goose-stepping... Hmm.

Rescuing a friend. After rescue, you get to play as her. Notice how her cage has crushed the cute little bad guy's head.

Hat is also boat! Can your ghastly gibus do that?!

The drums picked up and got ominous as you approached swift rapids. It was a bit of an 'oh shit' moment, until you realized rapids can't hurt you.

This boss is @primesuspect . He waxes flatulent, then uses a hand fan to send poop gas at you, all whilst making a power fist with his right hand.

When you gotta go, well...

Definitely not Assassin's Creed.

Good example of the art style... and of the wide, vast, expanse of 3D flatness that makes the art feel too small. You will row all the way to that wall, and yes, you're halfway across the lake in this photo already.

All bosses required you to do quicktime events to hurt them. This one involved climbing him while in flight, then stabbing him in the back Shadow of the Colossus style.

As the game wore on, little design cracks really started to wear through. This note discusses a new enemy... that you've been introduced to three or four levels ago. Note, too, the WHITE. WHITE WHITE WHITE EVERYTHING IS WHITE.

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is a game that puts you in the shoes of a madman with a gun who has fled the ravages of civilization to go be completely alone on a server that time forgot. You find yourself in an abandoned gold mine, ghost town, or corn field pitting nothing but your balls and your bullets against zero other players. L&G:GotWW:GRRM:GoT:TF2:The Gamening is an online-only multiplayer shooter. It might have been a phenomenal game in its day for all I know, but this is not its day. Throughout the 10 (11... ugh) hours I put into this game, only twice did I find real live people playing this game (who had apparently taken a day off of counter strike to go school the noobs of the wild west, and to inform them of their homosexuality). The rest of the time was spent playing the training... again... and again... and again... against bots that weren't ever taught the first rule of gunslinging (point the barrel at the enemy). I used this time to practice my (rudimentary) sniping skills. The game seems harmless enough. You select one of four classes, each with a primary, secondary, and passive ability. The passive ability is really just a buff to everyone, and doesn't really seem to have a point - uninteresting design. Primary ability is generally shoot (big surprise), and secondary depends on your class - you might drop a bear trap or throw a bundle of dynamite (LOL HAMBONE) or give your friends the ability to see through walls a la Left 4 Dead. The secondary ability is a beacon of creativity in what is otherwise just another TF2 copycat. The art style is well executed, but fairly uninspired - there's a blend of realism with cartoon-ism that we've come to expect in games that don't have the budget to go one way or the other. The gameplay itself is fairly smooth - no glaring bugs, which in this day and age is a LEGITIMATE point in the game's favor. The premise of the game itself is fairly dull - each map has varying objectives that are really just variations on capture the flag, tug-of-war, or deliver-the-bomb. Major gripe in the camera setup - this is yet another third-person game that should have been made into a first-person game. There is legitimately no tactical benefit to being in the third person (and plenty of annoying side effects, which I've touched on in previous reviews), but I guess the devs REALLY wanted you to see your character from the back. Even with people, though, this just looks like another CS/TF2/Unreal clone, set in a different place and time. Nothing to see here, folks, move along.
