Well servers >4u are at least the size of a typical mid tower (roughly) and with the exception of the huge RAID array cases, the layout isn't much different... Doesn't seem any more boring than building normal computers to me.
we dont do any 1u's but we do have some 2u mostly 4u however and floor units. The rack units go together quickly, the floor units take a few hours to do as I have to run all the power lines neatly and hidden out of site. I use on average 40 zip ties in a floor unit to mount and neaten the power cables. We also do ide raid with 250 gig drives. We use 3ware ide raid controllers, which I have to say kick butt. During the burn in tests which run for 2 days we pull a drive, then put it back in and rebuild the array while its burning in. Promise controllers lock up during this process but the 3ware plug right along.
They however use P4 3.0 processors.. *cringes and runs and hides from thrax muttering about not having any say in what they use*
