By the way, iHatePopUps, if you want windows start up tune to be something else, all you have to do is go into C:\WINDOWS\Media and replace the Windows XP Startup and Shutdown files with a song file, that what I do so it's not that boring, lame tune everytime I resart.;)
Or you can go into the 'sounds' section of the control panel. On the sounds tab, there's a list of windows events which you can apply sounds to.
I would like it if Windows would quit stealing focus. I hate it when it does. I hate that it will pop a window up in front of you just because there is new info or because it has been updated. I would think that just the icon on the taskbar would blink, and sometimes this happens, but not often - usually the offending window just takes front and center stage, even though you may be working on a word document or typing an email. argghhh. tweak has an option to prevent this from happening, but it still does.
Remember folder view settings for removable drives.
Relative-path shortcuts (for use on removable drives).
A media player that doesn't have as much mass or use as much screen real estate (by default) as a small building.
Decent DOS emulation. Virtual PC is a bit too jumpy for old DOS games and has memory-related issues with some DOS programs.
Control panel for changing console colors/fonts globally a la NT4.0.
Better memory management. It's not all supposed to be disk cache.
Elimination of the .NET monstrosity for VB. I've been programming off and on for years and I still have no idea what .NET is except slow and drive-clogging.
Emulation/translation layer for Win 9x drivers. Some of us would accept slightly reduced peripheral performance rather than do without it entirely.
Wave driver for PC Speaker (!)
No default limit of Firewire800 to 100Mb/sec for CAT-5 network use (WTF?? )
Disruptive autorun crap disabled by default, and controllable without using the Group Policy Editor.
Stop the disruptive automatic Explorer detection of folder contents for viewing files in a particular manner. Sometimes I might want to sort by when those mp3 files were modified. Extrapolating thumbnails from contents of a USB 1.1-connected digital camera with 500MB+ of photos is very annoying.
Stop the disruptive automatic parsing every one of about 2200 pictures in a folder when opening and scrolling if they're already indexed in Thumbs.db. If you're going to read them all ad nauseum anyway, why bother indexing them in the first place?
Windows Installer to put uninstall/program data on the same partition (F: ) and folder as where the Programs are installed, instead of clogging up C:\WINDOWS\Installer
Screen redraws/updates that don't randomly flicker. I can't believe it's still that bad in 2007.
Lose the worthless System Restore.
Cut the bloat from the near-useless Help and Support Center crapplet.
Assign Links the Cat as the search assistant without installing MS Office
Control the cursor with a gamepad/joystick and assign hotkeys to the buttons.
I wouldnt mind an application that simulates Ccleaner or Tune-up. I know you can access all of these funtions individually. But it cant be that hard to stick them in the os, in the one easily located place.

Realtime capability for multimedia playback.
A decent (as in dB-calibrated) audio subsystem.

Windows Vista wants:
Stop sucking.
What I want is simple, give us back AP or die !
