Perhaps a useful addition would be more integrated avi supported codecs, as well as other codecs that play or enhance different forms of audio and video.

That always bothered me, having to go out and find all the right codecs - even for self-recorded videos. -_-

    - Have an uninstall option for internet explorer that doesnt just remove shortcuts.

    - Have an uninstall option for windows media player that doesnt just remove shortcuts.

    - No more intergration of internet explorer into explorer. (Why do I have to view my hard drive as a retarded webpage :S.)

    - Have the ability to disable windows file protection.( Its "Saved" my os from evil possiably virus infested third party files many times by breaking windows)

    - Better memory management

    - To not have to be prompted to reboot for every little change just logged off and logged back on. (Thats all that needs to be done 99% of the time)

Even today, most times a logoff/logon will do the trick.

I'd like Windows to be able to remember how I choose to display folders.

For example, certain folders I would like to view in list format, and sort by last modified. I do not want to have to sort it that way every time I open the folder.

Dear Microsoft: Kindly get your sh*t together. Forget security updates, I want my aesthetics ;D. Thank you.

(On a side note, it sometimes works, sometimes not. It seems like I had to train one folder for a month before it got it. And then it'd still screw up sometimes. What's the deal?)

GrayFox, I figured you already knew that (seeing as how you were the one who brought it up). I mentioned it for the sake of those who might not have been aware of the little logoff/logon trick.

Here is some info on the subject.

I'd imagine you were referring to an easy way, though... :p

I've actually come across the need for that a few times but then I figure I'll just use the calculators at school. Algebra 2 lot of graphing and other boring stuff. I'd like to be able to go without having to format my drive more than twice a year like I did with Windows 98 also. <<Don't comment on that, I know you people are so good u dont need to format your drives.

Yeah, I did that but with all the times I have to format my drive... Anyway, I have more than enough time before class to finish most of my math hw.

I'd like Windows to be able to:

    1. Have a customizable 'startup' media playing for a specific user, be it a song, part of a song or video.

    2. 'Read my mind' on the small stuff, namely knowing roughly how big i want certain windows to be, how I want them to be put.

Of course, point 1 is possible, but point 2 well, kinda impossible to me (though the expert programmers might think otherwise...)

i think the first is possible as long as it is a wav file, maybe vista will allow mp3 and wma, dunno.

i just want it to run more efficiently.

I want to lock all aspects of the computer that control startup, so no programs can hook into the windows logon sequence without my authorisation.

    That's a great idea.

It could work like the firewall or the certificate checker does. Anytime a program tries to set itself up as a start-up resident, it would give you a dialog box that lets you know that a program is trying to add itself to the start-up sequence... It would have buttons like 'accept', 'deny', 'block program from start-up sequence', and 'always allow programs from this publisher'

I want Windows to be able to have the security of OpenBSD! Also to fully support Telnet.
By the way, iHatePopUps, if you want windows start up tune to be something else, all you have to do is go into C:\WINDOWS\Media and replace the Windows XP Startup and Shutdown files with a song file, that what I do so it's not that boring, lame tune everytime I resart.;)
