    Thermalright SLK-800, SLK-900, or SLK-947U.

the case is really up to you, it doesn't make that much of a difference... find something with decent airflow. as far as PSUs go, 400w or more antec or enermax.

also please dont post the same thread in more than one forum

There are 3 at the top of the list and they are all in the same family. The Thermalright SP97, the Thermalright SLK-947U for bolt on mounting and the Thermalright SLK-900(A) for a simple clip-on model. All three are outstanding and coupled with with an 80mm fan of 50 CFM or more will cool better tahn any other air cooled H/S.

Any case with good air flow will work well and I recomend a 350W minimum with 400W and above better from Antec or Enermax.

I highly recommend the Thermalright SLK-900(A) like mtgoat prescribed along with the Thermaltake SmartFan II ...The coolest quietest solution for that kind of money.
Also, don't forget the Arctic Silver 5.

All of your questions depend on what you want to use the system for. Are you planning on overclocking, or do you just want to run it at stock speeds? How big of a concern are noise, the size and appearance of the case?

Thanks for the answers-sorry about posting on more than one thread-first time at site-wasn't sure of proceeder.

I don't plan on overclocking. I just have a basic AMD-K6 right now-running at about 550 mhz. so this will be a huge upgrade. I just want something to keep it cool at normal operating speeds. Also i don't want to be lacking in power. thanks for the help.

If you buy a retail boxed CPU, the stock heatsink with the 2500 is excellent. It could really use a fan upgrade, but it's fine without one too, as long as your case is well cooled. As for power supplies, as a general rule, stick to Antec, Enermax, PC Power & Cooling, Fortron Source (FSP), or Enlight power supplies of 300w+. How important is noise, and the size/appearance of the case?

size, noise and appearance not very important. i am just trying to save money(wife bugging me). so anything good, but not very expensive. don't need top of the line.

    thanks

then you ought to be fine with the stock cooler. as far as PSUs and cases go, get an antec case with a bundled antec psu, i know newegg has them. that'll serve you well

I run this board with an Enermax 435w Whisper PSU... works very well... as far as the CPU cooler, when I was running Air Cooled, I used an Alpha PAL8045 with an 80mm 40CFM Ceradyna fan, and was really very pleased with it.

Newegg has a 400 watt Fortron Source psu for $54 + $6 shipping. They also have an Antec SL450 for $58 + $6 shipping and an Enlight 420 watt psu for $33.50 + $6 shipping.

For a case, you might want to look at this Maxtop CSX case . I don't have any personal experience with it but it has enough fan holes for decent cooling. One thing though; cut out those mesh fan holes and use wire type fan grills. It will both improve airflow and cut noise down.
