I am on a buddies laptop trying to update his drivers for his video card and can't seem to find anything other than the original manufacturers website... It is an HP/Compaq nx7000 with a Radeon 9200 Mobility.

if you use the Omega Drivers, you can use the latest drivers on a mobility card. Otherwise, you're stuck witht the originals.

Great, that seemed to help him out in his gaming adventures ;)

Go to rage3d.com, go to their forums, search for mobilemod 4. Download it. Go to ATi's site, download the Cat 4.2s. Attempt to install the cat4.2 driver. Wait for it to extract the files and either cancel or wait until it says it can't install the driver. Open Mobile Mod, mod the driver as per its instructions, go to the device manager, select update driver, and direct it to that directory.

    Uh?

Crazy or not, it works. My r7500m went from ~3500 in 3dmark '01 to ~5300 by switching from mobile drivers to ATi's reference drivers.

how do you uninstall the ATi drivers in XP without having the drivers reinstall themselves AUTOMATICALLY when you reboot into Windows?

uh? when are you rebooting. You shouldn't have to reboot until after the cats are installed.

    So, Uninstall.... Reinstall.... Reboot. OK.

I am not an XP guy, I don't have these strange issues I see with XP machines. But I wish Windows 2000 had some of the neater features XP has, like the better Task Manager.

Thanks for your post, Geeky1! I have a mobility radeon 9000 on my AJP laptop. Trying to play HL2 immediately set up an infinite loop error and suggested I try updated drivers. The laptop vendors have not put up driver updates since I purchased in March 2003. I tried the mobilemod 4 as you suggested, with the latest catalyst 5.2 drivers from ati.com. The mod allowed installation of the drivers and now I can play Half-life 2!!!!!!!!!!
Tip: After uninstalling your old ati drivers, empty the c\ati folder so that Mobile mod does not try to mod your old drivers rather than the new ones. Then start the new driver installation as posted above.
