Suddenly, my 'puter is the crapxor...

So, my computer is behaving terribly right now, and I think it's the fault of Windows.

See:

I got a new, larger HD, so I installed Windows XP on it, which is what I was useing before (and to great effect, I might add).

The nly difference between my former set-up and my new one is that I formatted the new HD with NTFS

Since then, the system has been ermm... pausing (for lack of better term).

Here's the thing:

intermittenly the screen will stop updating, then it will quickly catchup to the input. It doesn't bother my work that much, cause I can just keep typing through the pause, and afterward, it will catch-up with what I did. However, I would prefer that it did not do this... it makes games impossible.

sometimes the pauses only last a few seconds, but somethmes they are longer, a couple of them have been over a minute long.

I tried disabling 'hardware acceleration', but that didn't help. I'm stuck for what to try next.

I hope I don't have to reinstall Windows again.

    Ya.

The problem was worse before I installed the drivers.

Try disabling ATi's VPU recover, see if that helps.

The VPU recover option is in Windows. Right click desktop - properties - settings - VPU recover.

The fast writes option is in the BIOS.

Na... That was the first place I looked... It's not there. Does that mean that there is something wrong with my driver install? maybe that's my whole problem...

I'm gonna try to reinstall my video drivers and software.

What tabs are there in the advanced display settings menu then? You may have not installed the control panel. ATi's catalyst drivers are in two parts- the driver itself, and the control panel.

If you are not re-installing your OS, make sure you uninstall your drivers etc properly. e.g http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=33630746

    Cheers
