I need to do the same thing where I work. The knuckleheads can't be trusted. In IE you can enable the content manager and add certain approved sites to the list. There are also plenty of 3rd party programs that will control access.

You want to restrict access to the internet, as in you want to block certain websites yes?

If that's the case, you could set up a proxy server running ISA (Internet Security and Acceleraton). This will allow you to control which websites they can/can't visit, what time they can access the internet among many other things.

Also, if you have to administer quite a few machines, I would be looking into creating a domain and getting those machines out of a workgroup (Yuk!) and into that domain. This will probably make your job a little easier too. Doing this will allow you to control what features each user has access to on each machine via the Group Policy. Saves you from going to each machine and setting each one up individually. It's not quite as easy as 'A B C' but it's not real difficult either, and probably worth it.

Basically, by doing this you can control everything centrally (server side) and the uses can't do a damn thing about it!

yeh cybermatic is right you want to set up a Domain, and have ISA server running you will have much more control over users, groups and computers.

I work in a school and we use Cyber Patrol web filtering. You can monitor what every user is viewing and on what computer he/she is at around you domain with a real-time monitor.

With Cyber Patrol you can set rules up to allow/ block whatever sites you want, it excellent I would definately recommend it. You can also produce reports etc to prove that e.g John Smith was on pussy.com on computer 301 at 12.10 on 21/03/04 etc.

My advice is get a server set up with a domain and you'll be in control!

    Good Luck
